Less is Moore

November 6th, 2007 · No Comments

So Todd Bertuzzi offered a compromise to Steve Moore, the man who’s neck he had broken and possibly career ended when he decided to sucker punch him at the back of the head on that March 8th, 2004 evening, the fateful day which changed two people and the sport.

He offered him $350,000.

That’s about $350,000 too much.

There. I said it.

I cut ties with Todd Bertuzzi a long time ago when the Luongo-era was ushered into the Vancouver Canucks organization, so I’m speaking from an NHL fan’s perspective. And frankly, for Steve Moore’s lawyer Ted Danson to call Bertuzzi’s offer “an insult” is an insult to Bertuzzi. Personally, it was quite the “insult” when Moore and Danson attempted to sue Bertuzzi for $15 million in the first place.

$15 million.

That’s probably $8 million more than Steve Moore would’ve accumulated in his career.

$5 million I could live with. $7 million, even. But to ask for $15 million was a mistake, and it serves Moore and his lawyer right for even trying to put double-digit figures on the table in a civil suit.

Steve, you’ve already had this court case thrown out twice in two different cities already. This happened almost four years ago. Get over it. Fight your way back into the NHL; there are plenty of guys who have conquered broken necks and made it back into the NHL, let alone sport. If you call yourself a hockey player you’d have the guts to do it, not try and squeeze everything you can out of something which happened four years ago.

Talk about crying over spilled milk.
